Britney’s Farewell Tour, Vegas Pays Tribute: Our Prayers Are With You

Could the Princess Of Pop be deposed? For the last couple of years, you’d be forgiven for asking. Because despite Britney Spears’s hugely successful residency in Las Vegas, the star’s record sales took a big wobble with 2013’s lacklustre Britney Jean. And with an army of pretenders to the throne nipping at her sequinned heels – some Swift, some Grande – a new pop coronation seemed likely.

But everyone likes a comeback story. And considering her loyal following and regal status, maybe it’s about time the 33-year-old claims her rightful place at the top of the charts with a new release. The star has been causing a buzz with all her pictures from the studio over the past year, so what – and when – can we expect? After all, remember: it’s Britney, bitch.

Album release date: It’s coming later in 2016

Britney’s past few albums have been brought together relatively quickly when you consider her status as a global superstar, but the Louisiana native took a more considered approach for album number nine.

Her Las Vegas residency meant she could enjoy being a hands-on Soccer Mom without stepping away from the bright lights of the stage. This more comfortable and relaxed environment also means she had time to really plot the next stage of her career.

“I’m gonna do [a new album] slowly but surely,” Brit told Billboard in March 2015. “There’s a lot going on with my kids and schools and, you know, adding new sports and stuff like that. I’m gonna try to do my best to do an amazing album, but it’s not my full priority right now.”

Just over a year later, though, and Britney is ready to unleash #B9 into the world. Lead single‘Make Me’ was released on July 15, and ushered in a brand new era. The brand new music video – described as “all new, totally different and somewhat unexpected” – was filmed back in April, but faced delays when Brit’s team decided to change it at the last minute.

Gone But Never Forgotten. Sad Day As Prayers Are With The Winfrey Family

The initial David LaChapelle-directed version was apparently “too sexy” to be released, but Spears’ team denied this claim, instead saying the original video was “utterly disjointed… pointless with no storyline”.

Either way, following some leaked footage from the original, the Britney fandom started a petition get the record label to release the first version. Good luck with that.

Anyway, let’s get back to when we can expect #B9. Well the album – titled Glory – was released on August 26, 2016. “Britney’s really working on a fantastic record. I’ve heard about four or five songs that I think are just going to be big hits for her,” RCA Records Executive Vice President/GM Joe Riccitelli said in May 2016.

“She’s found a really great groove, and she’s working with some new, young producers. We have an A&R person working on the project that’s just really been able to thread the needle, and I’m really excited about it.” Bring it on!

Britney Spears new songs and credits: Who has the pop princess been working with?

Britney records tracks for ninth album.

Britney has already been in the studio working on new music for well over a year (since September 2014 as far as we can tell), but what’s more exciting is the amount of new songwriters and producers she has been collaborating with.

2015 single ‘Pretty Girls’ with Iggy Azalea (co-written by Little Mix, no less) saw Brit get in the studio with The Invisible Men. While that single didn’t exactly set the charts alight (No. 16 peak in the UK and No. 29 in the US), it did see Britney go back to having fun over a chewy pop hook.
